Understand Shopify Hong Kong plan prices, payment and third-party fees, apps and setup costs with a transparent first-year example.

Article overview

1. Subscription: compare billing termsShopify lists Basic at HK$229 per month equivalent on annual billing, or HK$259 billed monthly; Grow at HK$649 or HK$719; and Advanced at HK$2,790 or HK$3,090 respectively. Annual equivalents are shown as monthly figures for comparison; the annual commitment and charges at checkout determine what is payable. Shopify Plus starts at US$2,300 per month on a three-year term; its agreement and any volume-based fees must be confirmed with Shopify.2. Payment processing: count only the payments that use each rateThe Hong Kong pricing page lists Basic online card processing from 3.3% + HK$2.35 per transaction. That is a starting rate, not a guarantee for every card or currency. Confirm your Shopify Payments eligibility, card type, international card and currency-conversion charges, refunds and disputes against the current fee schedule and your account.3. Third-party transaction fees: a separate line, when applicableA payment processor’s charge and Shopify’s third-party transaction fee are different charges. Shopify’s Hong Kong pricing page lists a 2% third-party transaction fee for Basic when applicable. Shopify’s documentation says third-party and alternative gateways can incur this fee even if Shopify Payments is active; specific exemptions depend on the method and terms. Ask Shopify and the provider which transactions are chargeable and what amount the fee is calculated on.

Shopify’s subscription is only one part of the cost. A Hong Kong merchant should budget separately for the plan, payment processing, any applicable third-party transaction fees, apps, and setup or development. The right plan depends on the features and actual payment mix, not turnover alone.

The prices below were checked against Shopify’s Hong Kong pricing page on 7 November 2026. They are published starting prices, not a quote. Promotions, taxes, billing currency, card type, contract and eligibility can change the amount on your invoice. Check the checkout and current terms before committing.

1. Subscription: compare billing terms

Shopify lists Basic at HK$229 per month equivalent on annual billing, or HK$259 billed monthly; Grow at HK$649 or HK$719; and Advanced at HK$2,790 or HK$3,090 respectively. Annual equivalents are shown as monthly figures for comparison; the annual commitment and charges at checkout determine what is payable. Shopify Plus starts at US$2,300 per month on a three-year term; its agreement and any volume-based fees must be confirmed with Shopify.

Annual billing charges the full year upfront. Shopify says monthly subscription and app billing cycles are generally 30 days, not calendar months; other charges can still appear during an annual plan. For any budget period, check the cycle start and end dates and how many charges fall within it. Select a plan using the staff access, reporting, markets, B2B and checkout features you actually need. Compare annual and monthly terms, renewal price and upgrade or downgrade conditions. Do not convert USD Plus prices into HKD without stating the exchange rate and any bank or conversion charges.

2. Payment processing: count only the payments that use each rate

The Hong Kong pricing page lists Basic online card processing from 3.3% + HK$2.35 per transaction. That is a starting rate, not a guarantee for every card or currency. Confirm your Shopify Payments eligibility, card type, international card and currency-conversion charges, refunds and disputes against the current fee schedule and your account.

A merchant may offer cards and local methods, but the costs and eligibility differ by method and business. Shopify lists Alipay and WeChat Pay among supported online local methods for Hong Kong stores. Both are in early access and are not available to all eligible merchants; check the specific activation, eligibility and transaction restrictions. For PayMe, FPS or Octopus, confirm the available provider, supported workflow, charges and contract before promising availability.

Shopify Payments in Hong Kong is available for online selling, not ordinary in-person POS card processing. In-person card payments through Shopify POS require an external terminal and a third-party processor; get a separate terminal and processing quote. Eligibility for any supported local QR method is a separate question.

3. Third-party transaction fees: a separate line, when applicable

A payment processor’s charge and Shopify’s third-party transaction fee are different charges.

Do not apply the 2% to Shopify Payments card orders in the example below, and do not assume every PayMe or FPS integration is exempt. If a third-party method applies, model its provider processing fee and any applicable Shopify fee separately for only that method’s orders. Check the current agreement before calculating.

4. Apps, setup and ongoing work

List each required app’s subscription, usage allowance and billing currency, along with domain, theme, integration, design, content, maintenance and support costs. Some are recurring and others are one-off. Get written quotations and check whether setup, tax and currency conversion are included. An app may solve a requirement without custom development; compare actual scope and ongoing support before deciding.

5. Worked example: first-year cost, not a quotation

Assume a Hong Kong store uses Basic with annual billing; 100 online orders per month at HK$500 each; all 1,200 orders are paid entirely by eligible standard cards through Shopify Payments at 3.3% + HK$2.35; no gift cards, store credit, discounts, taxes, shipping charges or third-party gateway orders; one app at an assumed HK$100 per 30-day cycle; exactly 12 app charges fall within the example year; and a one-off setup cost of HK$10,000. The app and setup prices are invented budgeting assumptions, not Navy FAB prices or vendor quotations.

  • Subscription: HK$229 × 12 = HK$2,748.
  • Gross card sales: 100 × HK$500 × 12 = HK$600,000.
  • Payment processing: HK$600,000 × 3.3% + 1,200 × HK$2.35 = HK$19,800 + HK$2,820 = HK$22,620.
  • Shopify third-party transaction fee: HK$0 for this assumed Shopify Payments-only example.
  • App: HK$100 × 12 assumed charges = HK$1,200.
  • Setup: HK$10,000 once.

Illustrative first-year total: HK$2,748 + HK$22,620 + HK$0 + HK$1,200 + HK$10,000 = HK$36,568. This does not include taxes, domain, international or different-card rates, foreign exchange, refunds or disputes, extra apps, shipping, POS, ongoing maintenance or future price changes. The second year does not automatically have the same setup cost. Replace every assumption with your own quote and payment mix.

Hong Kong merchant checklist

  • Confirm the legal entity, Shopify Payments eligibility, business category and settlement currency.
  • Record plan, billing term, renewal price and required features; use the actual currency in your contract.
  • For each payment method, obtain the processor rate, fixed fees, applicable Shopify fee, exemptions, refund, dispute and FX terms in writing.
  • Add app, domain, theme, setup, support, shipping and any in-person terminal charges; distinguish one-off from recurring costs.
  • Run a test transaction and refund, then reconcile the actual bill and payout with the estimate.
