Boutir is a sensible first trial for straightforward local selling; SHOPLINE for connected social, online and retail workflows; Shopify for design, apps and multiple markets. Choose by tested tasks, the proposed tier and total cost.
All three are hosted platforms: they run the core commerce software, while you still manage products, policies, customer service, fulfilment and data. Before a demo, list your actual product count, staff roles, required wallets, couriers, POS, languages and systems. Ask each vendor to demonstrate those tasks on the tier you would buy, then compare a full year of costs.

2026 plan prices and the cost beyond subscription
As of 24 October 2026, entry subscriptions are Boutir Essential HK$4,988/year, SHOPLINE Basic HK$5,988/year and Shopify Basic US$25/month billed annually. These are starting subscriptions, not all-in prices.

Shopify charges in US dollars, and renewal terms should be checked. SHOPLINE Lite is a separate offer with a different feature and fee model. The fee structures also differ: SHOPLINE lists a monthly 0.8% “system traffic maintenance fee” for Basic and plan-specific rates and SHOPLINE Payments waivers on higher tiers; ask what revenue base, exceptions and payment processing charges apply. Boutir’s main pricing page says 0% GMV commission, but a separate Boutir comparison page still describes a 0.5% order charge, so request its current written fee schedule; payment gateway fees remain separate. Shopify lists a 2% third-party transaction fee on Basic when applicable, in addition to the third-party processor’s charges. Shopify Payments has its own card rates. Do not treat any one percentage as the total cost of accepting a payment.
Get an itemized written quote for the intended tier and billing term from each vendor, including the renewal year. Build a twelve-month model using the same order count, average order value, payment mix and return rate. Include subscription, card and wallet processing, platform or traffic charges, apps, messaging, shipping labels, POS, design and support. Ask for the fee base and exemptions in writing. Add the cost of a future move: product and customer export, order history, content and URL redirects, staff training and temporary parallel operation.
Store design and the work behind the screen
Boutir emphasizes mobile store management, SHOPLINE online, social and retail workflows, and Shopify themes, apps and customization. Test the exact tier with your own catalogue.
Run the same staff trial on all three
Boutir advertises mobile and desktop management and customizable pages; SHOPLINE lists drag-and-drop design, themes and CSS editing; Shopify offers a theme editor and custom development. Ask the person who will maintain the shop to upload ten products, create a collection, change a campaign banner, correct a variant price and find an order. Record time, errors and whether an app, higher tier or developer is needed. The following interface screenshots came from the original 2020–2022 article; use them as historical context, not as evidence of the 2026 interface.

For a multi-brand catalogue, test two brands, mixed image shapes, variants and long English and Chinese product names. Check search, filters, mobile product cards, keyboard navigation and text contrast. A highly customizable storefront still needs someone to maintain it after launch.

The storefront examples below are historical design references from the original article. Compare current layout, typography and mobile controls in a live trial.

These older storefront examples show different brand styles; they do not establish what a current plan includes.

Theme examples show a starting design. In a current trial, ask staff to change navigation, product pages and a mobile banner, then record what needs a developer.
Hong Kong payments: verify the merchant account
Boutir lists cards, PayMe, FPS, Octopus, Alipay and WeChat Pay among its supported methods, subject to provider terms. SHOPLINE lists SHOPLINE Payments plus third-party connections, with methods varying by plan. Eligible Hong Kong Shopify stores can use Shopify Payments for online cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Shop Pay. Shopify also lists Alipay and WeChat Pay as early-access methods for eligible Hong Kong accounts; activation review and one-time-payment restrictions apply. These names do not guarantee that a particular wallet, business category or customer is eligible.
Demonstrate a complete local and overseas checkout, refund and dispute using the actual business entity. Record customer currency, settlement currency, payout time, processor fee and any platform fee. Hong Kong Shopify POS cannot use Shopify Payments for in-person card processing; card-present sales need an external terminal and third-party processor. Eligible Shopify POS stores may have Alipay or WeChat QR options under separate conditions and online-rate pricing.
A payment logo is not an approval
For each required wallet or card network, ask who provides it, whether your legal entity and products qualify, what the customer sees, and who handles refunds and chargebacks. Distinguish a platform payment integration from a manual bank transfer. Test at least one successful payment and refund before signing.
Delivery, POS and returns: test an entire order
Boutir advertises local logistics automation and mPOS. SHOPLINE lists OneShip courier connections and POS functions, but some retail functions require a higher tier or add-on. Shopify offers shipping settings, pickup and fulfilment integrations whose Hong Kong carrier support must be checked individually. A carrier logo alone does not prove that its label, pickup-point selection and tracking work for your products and address.
Include the exceptions, not only a successful delivery
Create a Hong Kong delivery, pickup, failed delivery and return. Check label generation, apartment or locker instructions, tracking notifications, cash-on-delivery reconciliation if needed, and who restores inventory after a return. For a warehouse or 3PL, verify the exact connector and order, stock, label and tracking fields. For chilled or same-day goods, verify service area, cut-off, temperature control, packaging and responsibility for delays.
If you have a shop, sell the same SKU at the counter and online, then change stock, process a return and check membership points. Confirm whether the POS, payment terminal and online inventory really stay in sync on the selected plan.
Cross-border sales and systems integration
Shopify Markets supports market-specific language, currency and pricing, subject to plan and payment requirements; actual local-currency checkout needs a supported processor. SHOPLINE also advertises cross-border selling, and Boutir has custom solutions, but neither should be dismissed as Hong Kong-only. Test your destination markets, tax, delivery and returns on the plan being quoted.
SHOPLINE publishes developer APIs and webhooks; Shopify has a broad app and developer platform. Boutir advertises tailored system integration, but ask for the exact access terms. Map products, inventory, orders, customers and accounting data first; then confirm each required endpoint, rate limit, authentication method, error handling and maintenance owner. An API’s existence does not prove that your ERP workflow is covered.
Run one bilingual product and one overseas test order through each proposed tier. Check the displayed price, shipping, payment, tax, refund and data sent to your other systems. Ask whether each step is native, a paid extension, custom development or manual work. If several brands or legal entities are involved, confirm whether one store is sufficient.
Choose with a scorecard, not a slogan
Score the same observed tasks for every vendor: publish content, take a payment, dispatch or offer pickup, handle a return, and change a promotion without breaking the store. Add weighted requirements for accessibility, staff training, data export and integration. Check each contract’s support channel, hours and response commitment; test a real question during the trial and name who resolves payment, carrier, theme or app failures. Keep the written quote and answers with your notes.
A small local team might find Boutir’s operating style easiest; a merchant coordinating social selling and stores might prefer a SHOPLINE trial; a content-heavy or multi-market business might prioritize Shopify. The right choice is the one that passes your must-have tasks at an acceptable first-year and renewal cost. If a wallet, regulated product or warehouse connection is essential, resolve that blocker before judging themes or promotions. Keep an export and URL-redirection plan so a future migration is manageable.
